What Carol Barkes can say in an interview on
the Benefits of Mediation
:

 1. Leave your people at home (this includes friends, your mom or dad, new girlfriend, boyfriend, wife or husband). Of course, these people are on your side but they are often blinded by their bias for you. They are not living your stress or paying your bills so their recommendations are often short-sighted and can leave parents dealing with ramifications they had not intended. They also tend to fire up the other side. Mediators do not need character references. Save that for court if all else fails.

When Depression Comes Out as Anger: Causes and Solutions

Interview with Dr. Colleen Cira

Dr. Colleen Cira is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who specializes in Women and Trauma, and has worked with hundreds of people struggling with mental health issues for over twenty years.

Talking Points from Dr. Cira
On Anger & Depression:

Why do people suffering from depression often get angry?

  • Being depressed zaps our energy and makes everything seem harder, including thinking and feeling. Essentially, someone who is depressed has very limited emotional bandwidth.
  • If you’re low on energy and patience, everything is going to seem like a chore, including interacting with people. Every last bit of energy you do have is going inward, just trying to put one foot in front of another, so that’s a lot less energy you have to be kind, thoughtful, or empathic.

4 Things Parents Should Avoid With Their Kids

Available for Interviews: Colleen Cira, Psy.D.

Dr. Colleen Cira is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who specializes in Women and Trauma, and has worked with hundreds of people struggling with mental health issues.

What Dr. Cira Can Say in an Interview on Raising Children:

  1. Do not make your children your life. This may sound crazy because for most of us parents, we often feel like our children ARE our life, but here’s the problem. When we build our life around every aspect of our children—their desires, their hobbies, their opinions—several negative things tend to happen: a) we neglect our our own needs; b) we neglect our partner/relationship/marriage; c) we teach our children that the world revolves around them. Of course we want to prioritize quality time with our kids and carve out time in our schedules to support them in things that interest them, but please: also make them go to the grocery store, also keep up with your own interests/hobbies and also continue to spend quality time with your partner.

What Dr. Alice Fong can say in an interview
About Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Interview With Oprah
:

What Meghan and Harry’s Interview with Oprah taught us about speaking out when we feel silenced and trapped.

Even though most of us are not members or ex-members of the British Parliament, I’ve encountered many people who expressed to me that they felt “trapped” in their life in some form or fashion. Maybe they have felt stuck in a loveless marriage, or even worse, an abusive relationship. Or perhaps trapped in a job they hate and not being able to express their frustrations. People who feel stuck in a seemingly hopeless situation for a long period of time are at a high-risk for major depressive disorder, and even suicidal ideation.

6 Things You Can Do When You Are Feeling Lonely or Depressed

Available for Interviews: Dr. Alice Fong

Alice Fong, ND, is an integrative naturopathic doctor specializing in stress, integrative medicine, diet & weight loss, and is a business growth consultant for holistic healthcare providers.

What Dr. Alice Fong can say in an interview on
What You Can Do When Feeling Lonely or Depressed
:

 1. Don’t Suppress It. Some people have the notion that since emotions are irrational by nature, they should suppress it. This is not necessarily the best way to deal with heavy emotions. Remember, humans are by nature emotional beings. It’s okay to be sad, to feel frustrated, to grieve, or be disappointed. It is perfectly normal. Avoiding or bottling up those feelings does not allow us to move on from them. Yes, some emotions can be uncomfortable, even painful, but just remember emotions come and go and don’t last forever.

7 Steps to Better Anger Management

Available for Interviews: Carol Barkes

Carol Barkes, CPM, MBA, is a conflict resolution expert, mediator, national speaker, educator and bestselling author who uniquely applies neuroscience to the fields of conflict resolution and negotiations. Her expert perspective is always fresh and relevant.

Talking Points from Carol Barkes on what she can say in an interview
about How to Manage Your Anger:

1) Explore the root of your anger. Anger is a secondary emotion in that there are other emotions that manifest as anger. It can be especially helpful to explore the underlying emotions that are leading to anger as they provide insight into what is the root issue. It can also be helpful as these underlying emotions pave the way to a better understanding of your feelings by giving you more adjectives to use. For instance, you might be frustrated, sad, or feel that you have been treated unfairly, feel that you have no power, etc. When you can use more words to express yourself rather than that you are just angry, it not only feels better but it helps others understand you better.
