What Paul Tracey can say in an interview on
Multifactor Authentification:

    • Workforce Shortage. As cybercrimes continue to increase at exponential rates this segment of the workforce is not growing fast enough to meet the demand.  It is estimated that 700,000 people joined the cybersecurity workforce in 2021, however, 2.7 million more were needed. Businesses are moving much slower to attract these workers than is required and obtaining talent in this sector will become increasingly difficult.

    • Supply chains will continue to be a focus for cybercriminals. Supply chain attacks rose 42% in the first quarter of 2021. With high-profile attacks such as SolarWinds, Kaseya, and Colonial Pipeline making headlines, cybercriminals are well aware that supply chains need a great deal of improvement and will continue to be a focus of attacks.
    • International cybercrime will continue to increase in the US but is also expected to rise in places that currently give a safe haven to hackers such as China and Russia. The creation of these hubs for hackers to operate without consequence will backfire and hackers will begin to target the international companies doing business in these countries.
    • Smart Devices and IOT will grow much larger. Devices like smart home controls, Alexa, google home, and vehicle wifi are all known to be produced without much inherent security. The amount of these devices going into use continues to rise year over year which expands the attack surface substantially. Expect that the notoriously insecure devices will likely be slow in adopting the necessary changes and the gap will create a surge in these types of attacks.
