What Harry Abramhamsen can say in an interview on
The 401(k) and Retirement:

Money magazine’s front page headline asked this same question back in April 2003. The Founder and Pension Consultant of the 401(k) Ted Benna, the man who created the first plan in the 1980’s, was quoted:

“If I were starting from scratch today building the 401(k)’s, I’d frankly blow up the existing structures.”

The Wall Street Journal’s article on January 2, 2017 titled, “The Champions of the 401(k) Lament the Revolution They Started.”

Pension plans barely exist and most Americans are now left holding the bag. Ms. Ghilarducci, economist and director of the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis realizes that money is not math and math is not money, offers a proposed fix mentioned in this article stating that she “wants to ditch the 401(k) altogether. She and Blackstone Group President Tony James are recommending a mandated, government-run savings system that would be administered by the Social Security Administration.”

Investment Advice

  • Do not contribute over your company’s match.
  • Discuss with your CPA if a tax deferral today is worth the larger tax bite later in life without any future deductions (mortgage interest, children, or owning a business).
  • Create your own private pension plan. Take control over your finances.
  • Invest your today dollars into post-tax investments to reduce future tax hikes.
