What Dr. Rodriguez can say in an interview about
How to Optimally Take Your Medication:

Sometimes when you take medication, you’ll notice it takes longer to kick in. This is due to various factors, but a study1 done by Johns Hopkins University revealed that there are certain ways to take pills that work faster and better.

A few factors that affect how quickly
the medication you take is absorbed:
    •  Posture: The study found that the best posture for the quickest absorption of medication is leaning to your right. Through a computer simulation, researchers were able to surmise that taking pills while lying on or leaning to the right side made the drugs travel into the “deepest part of the computer stomach” and dissolved twice as fast as taking pills upright in a sitting position.
    • How much liquid, gas, and food you have in your stomach: Research shows that certain foods and liquids can alter the effects of the medications you take. Liquids such as grapefruit and cranberry juice, foods that are high in vitamin K, like leafy greens, salt substitutes, or foods that are potassium-rich, like bananas. In some cases, these can neutralize the effect of certain medications.2

Whatever medications you take, you should carefully read the directions or consult with your doctor if you’re unsure of the proper way to take them. Your doctor will be able to advise you best on what medications have certain requirements, as each can come with its own set of specific instructions.
