The Consumption of Sugar in America
:

        • The average American consumes about 152 pounds of sugar a year. That is about 189 grams of sugar a day.
        • The American Heart Association advises that we should consume between 25–38 grams of sugar per day.

        • The average American is consuming at least 5 times the recommended amount of sugar a day.
        • Excess sugar consumption increases insulin production and eventually insulin resistance, which leads to metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. Weight gain and increased blood pressure often occur simultaneously. 
        • According to the CDC,’s 2020 Diabetes Report, 34.2 million Americans have diabetes (1 in 10) and 88 million American adults are pre-diabetic (1 in 3). 37% of diabetics have chronic kidney disease.
