What Dr. Alice Fong can say in an interview on
How to Have a Positive Mindset
:

I think it’s important that we first establish what is meant by a positive mindset. A positive mindset is one that focuses on all things that are good. And when I say focus on all good things, it doesn’t mean avoiding negative things in life because truly, you can never predict when bad things will happen. A positive mindset means that even in the worst possible situation in life, you will still be able to see good things. It means making the most out of a bad situation and turning it into something positive.

So how can you stay positive even in the most unlikely situation?
Here are 4 tips for you to maintain a positive mindset.

1. Acceptance

This is the most important step in having a positive mindset. You need to accept the fact that you can never tell when bad things will happen. I mean you can put measures in place to try to lessen the chances of them happening, but even the most sound plans can never give you a 100% guarantee that things will always go the way you wanted them to. Acceptance will prepare you, even more, to face uncertain circumstances in life. Things could come to an unexpected turn, but it’s not the end of the world.

2. Notice If You Tend to Focus on the Cumulative Bad Events That Happen

When things start going in an undesired way, we tend to start losing that sense of control. Most people would then start looking at all the other things that didn’t go well for them. It’s easy to connect all unfortunate events together as if the entire universe is conspiring against you. And tracking all the other bad things should be avoided when circumstances become unpleasant!

3. Look at the Brighter Side of Things

Instead of thinking about all the other unfortunate things that happened to you in a day for example, why not list down all the good things you have in life? Or the things that could potentially come out good even when the situation seems hopeless? This approach will help you recondition your mind to make the most out of a seemingly unbearable situation and turn it into something good.

4. Refocus Your Energy

Now that you already know how a potentially bad situation can be turned into something good, refocus! Exert all your energy and effort into matters you can control rather than things you can’t. There is no point dwelling in anything you can’t control. So step out of your routine; do something you have more control over. Start doing this and you’ll be surprised how circumstances can quickly come from worst to the best.
