What Leni Rivera can say in an interview
Cultivating an Inclusive Workplace:

In today’s new work environment where workers can work from anywhere, companies are hiring from anywhere, and are creating a more diverse workforce today than ever before. As such, it is essential to create workplaces that are inclusive and equitable, where everyone feels that they belong.

  • Soft Skills Play An Essential Role in the Workplace. When searching for new workers, recruitment teams normally list qualifications that are related to the job’s specific knowledge, abilities, and expertise. At the same time, recruiters and hiring managers also value a candidate’s soft skills, which are the personal qualities in a person that allow them to thrive within a team. In today’s evolving work environment, many of these soft skills play an even more important role, such as communication skills, empathy, adaptability, and emotional intelligence. However, even with the best skill sets, workers cannot thrive in a team unless their workplace environment accommodates and empowers them to do so.
  • Diverse Qualities Are an Asset in the Workplace. This new hybrid work environment has allowed workers to have more autonomy over their work, and managers are recognizing the need to focus on their team’s results rather than micromanaging how work is done. As a result, the unique backgrounds, ethnicities, physical abilities, and neurodiverse qualities of workers can be highlighted as beneficial perspectives to a team’s outcomes. This is why the hard and soft skills of a candidate should not differ based on a person’s diverse qualities. In fact, the workplaces themselves should incorporate these diverse qualities into their environment to support and empower them to thrive.
  • Remote Work Offers More Opportunity for Diversity. There has never been a more opportune time to cultivate an inclusive workplace, especially because working from home allows employees to have access to the support they need to be effective (whether that is special equipment, dimmer lighting, volume control, or simply the ability to do uninterrupted work), and corporate offices are also undergoing physical modifications to accommodate a hybrid workforce. As the physical environment is changing to reflect evolving corporate cultures, this is the best time to incorporate physical attributes and new programs that celebrate, enhance, and support the diversity of this newly empowered workforce.
